Broker Election 2020 - These are the winners!
In the 20th anniversary year of the broker poll, over 49,000 traders (2019: 36,000 participants) voted on the best broker in each of these 6 categories from March 03 to 31:
- Online Broker
- ETF Broker
- Daytrade Broker
- Forex Broker
- Futures Broker
- CFD Broker
There were favorite victories, but also real surprises!
In particular, the new generation of brokers entering the brokerage market with disruptive business and billing models is causing a stir:
Trade Republic, justTRADE, Free broker and Smartbroker were able to achieve several top positions and show that the German brokerage market is undergoing a major upheaval.
The winners of the Broker Election 2020 in the 6 categories
In the main category "Online Broker of the Year 2020", however, one of the established players was able to assert itself - the comdirect won the title for the third time in a row!
The eternal competitor from Nuremberg, the Consorsbank, was able to maintain second place just behind it.
With a slightly larger gap behind this duo, the young fintech Trade Republic won third place for itself.
Following at a slight distance here are fourth-placed Degiro, flatex, DKB, S Broker and smart brokers.
In the category "ETF Broker of the Year 2020" was the first big surprise.
Trade Republic from Berlin was able to win this title clearly ahead of DKB and flatex right at the first broker election participation.
Newcomer justTRADE narrowly misses out on the podium in fourth place, but left established brokers such as Onvista Bank, S Broker, maxblue and Netbank behind it.
In the election for the "Daytrade Broker of the Year 2020", the winner is Degiro, as in the previous year.
However, the next two places are occupied by two disruptive brokers: justTRADE in second place and Gratisbroker in third place. The still leading broker in this category in the all-time comparison ViTrade had to settle for fourth place.
The title "Forex Broker of the Year 2020" could for the first time ActivTrades win
By a narrow margin, XM.com was able to take second place and IG Europe in third place.
In the category "Futures Broker of the Year 2020" once again secured WH SelfInvest the title.
As in the previous year, Lynx was the second winner here, ahead of Degiro and Tradovate.
„CFD Broker of the Year 2020" was Admiral Markets.
The Berlin broker was able to win this title for the second time, beating WH SelfInvest and CMC Markets to the top.
Fourth place went to IG Europe, ahead of Sparkassen Broker.
The very rapid penetration of new brokers into the top group shows how dynamic the German brokerage market is.
Due to the Corona crisis, the change in market shares could accelerate again.
And the question of which city is THE financial metropolis in Germany could also get a new answer in the future:
The former financial metropolis Frankfurt am Main is getting more and more competition from Berlin.
7 of the 18 medals went to Frankfurt this year, but Berlin follows directly behind with 6 medals. The gap is narrowing and who will be ahead in 2021 is far from decided!
In the coming weeks, Broker-Test.de, the organizer of the Broker of the Year election, will present these new brokers and compare them with the established brokers.

In a comparison of comparison portals (sic!), Broker-Test.de is clearly ahead of other broker comparison portals.
